What you need:

2.  Tennis Player

Male or female, this is a great costume.  With the tennis frenzy over Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer, this is a simple, yet trendy, Halloween costume idea.  Just follow these easy guidelines and you’re ready to go!

What you need:

  • Tennis racquet (or any racquet for that matter)
  • Tennis shoes (sneakers)
  • Shorts or short skirt (if going for a vintage style, make those shorts tight…and short)
  • Collared t-shirt or tank top
  • Visor
  • Wrist band and/or headband
  • Can even add a wig for an old school look!

3.  Spartan/Queen Gorgo

This costume may require a little more effort to put together, so kudos to you if you pull it off.  Inspired by the movie 300, check out King Leonidas I (Gerard Butler) and this fierce look!  Or, ladies, check out Queen Gorgo (Lena Headey) and her cutthroat ensemble.

What you need:

  • Cape
  • Shoulder harness
  • Arm and leg gauntlets
  • Shorts and loin cover
  • Any type of weapon (sword, stick/staff)
  • Helmet and combat shield

  • Long, white toga dress
  • Wear gold jewelry to give it that rich Greek effect
  • Accessorize it with black or blonde wigs and arm gauntlets

4.  Richard Simmons

What better way to liven up the party than by personifying a historical and prominent fitness icon!  Mr. Simmons was known for his energetic, motivational demeanor, and eye-catching Dolfin shorts and tank tops decorated with Swarovski crystals.  If you’re a fitness enthusiast, why not exemplify your commitment and dedication to serious fitness by dressing up as the legendary Richard Simmons.

What you need:

  • Shorts (most often seen and known for his red candy-striped shorts)
  • Tank top (add crystals to really stand out)
  • Curly wig (optional, but will definitely authenticate your costume)
  • White shoes with high ankle white socks

 5. Body Builder

Unless you’ve dressed up as a body builder in the past, it is unlikely you’ll have a body suit in your closet.  No worries, there are plenty of stores that offer comfortable, yet menacing body suits.

[Actual body builders clearly have an edge]

What you need:

  • Real or fake muscles
  • Muscle shirt
  • Competition belt
  • Barbell (get creative!)

Here’s a picture of Mr. Olympia himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger.  This should get you motivated and excited about your Halloween costume!

6.  Fitness Instructor (Vintage)

Reminisce with your friends and family of a time where not matching your fitness outfit was actually considered in style!  Start searching for hidden treasures and gems in your closet or make your way over to your parents’ house to find the perfect combination of colors.

What you need:

  • Spandex, spandex, and more spandex
  • Variety of colors (neon!)
  • Headband
  • The article of clothing covering the shinbone is unknown to this blogger, but cutting open a pair of old long socks seems to make sense
  • A boombox will surely add spontaneity and originality to your Halloween costume

7. Referee

NFL is America’s most-watched televised sport.  This Halloween, let’s forgo the position and title of ‘athlete’ and cross over to the officiating side. This costume is very simple and can be a lot of fun.  If you wear this costume, you automatically assume the role of enforcer and officiator at any party!

What you will need:

  • White or black cap
  • Black vertical zebra strips pants, shirt, or shorts
  • A Football whistle
  • Running shoes
